Fayette County Courthouse

La Grange, Texas

This courthouse was designed in the Romanesque Revival style by James Riely Gordon in 1891. It was the second Texas county courthouse designed by Gordon and was completed when he was only 27 years old. It is preceded by the 1889-built Aransas County Courthouse, which, having been demolished in 1956, makes the Fayette County Courthouse the oldest surviving of Gordon’s courthouses. The Fayette County Courthouse was constructed predominantly from blue sandstone quarried from nearby Muldoon, Texas.
