Southern Pacific Depot

Burton, Texas

Rail service in Burton was established in 1870 with the arrival of the Houston and Texas Central Railroad. This depot was built in 1898 after a fire destroyed the original 1870 depot. The railroad, subsumed by Southern Pacific, built this 1898 depot in the standard Southern Pacific design. The depot was sold and relocated in 1961 but was acquired by the Burton Heritage Society in 1990, who worked to restore the depot and turn it into a museum.
